With a friendly storefront to mitigate the droning factory in the back, this calming retail space crams a lot of stockings into a tiny room. McGregor carries everything from utilitarian white sport socks to silky black dress socks; shoppers can expect to save 20 to 70 per cent of the suggested retail price. In addition to such house brands as American Essentials and Happy Foot, the store vends licensed brands like Levi’s, Dockers and Lucky. Mercerized-cotton Calvin Kleins are a fave of business folk. In retail stores they’re $28; here they’re $9.99. One of the perks of this location is the high turnover of inexpensive samples: new CK socks go for $4.99. (Just be warned: the socks have been known to sell out in two hours.) If you’re trying to maximize your savings, remember this: the closer we are to a change of season, the bigger the discounts.
