I'm pretty sure any hardware store like home depot, canadian tire, rona has them, they are probably even in the hardware section at walmart. you just need to ask for a socket that screws into a light fixture. i had the discussion with hubby this weekend about when the lights are going up outside, now he wants to switch to the new leds - any fishies who live in TO should take their old lights to home depot(i think, call first hubby's been wrong before) cause they have an offer that if you bring in your old ones they will give you a discount or rebate on the more energy efficient leds.

Has anyone seen the big blow-up snowglobe outdoor ornament at Canadian Tire? Its so cute!!!!! I think I would like to have one (but they are tooooo expensive).

Some of the more common plug adapters most are familiar with are VERY hard to find. About two years ago large hardware stores stopped carrying the ones you screw into your outside light fixture because they couldn't meet safety regulations. (By now m,aybe a new type is out though). If you have small family run hardware stores in your area you might still find one. What type of plug adapter do you need? There are many many kinds....

Your not alone seeing how we use a real tree we do not put ours up until the week before xmas. I find it makes less mess I think this year I will decorate soon though. That is if I can ever get rid of the hubby his work is going through some changes and I cannot wait to get him out from underfoot he is more of a scrouge than anyone I have ever met.

I saw those!! i want one also!! only because my mother hates all those blow up things and told me if i get one she WOULD NOT come over! Nha I wouldnt do that to my Mommy...I love her! She just hates all the tacky x-mas decorations like those plastic candles and santa's. she's my own little christmas decoration scrudge!

Walmart sells them, so does Canadian Tire - and probably any other hardware store. They have them all year long but they sell out VERY quickly at Christmas - so go look for one now! Just tell the sales person what you need it for - they will know.

Just saw this at Costco last week...man that'd be a cool lawn ornament!

Save-On sells those blowup snowglobe things too... very amusing... when we first had it up in the store, people kept thinking it was snowing!! Now it's been moved so that it doesn't confuse the customers as much... but it's not as visible that way.

3 Days? Ours usually goes up the first weekend in December or earlier depending upon when we have our Christmas Party. This year our Party is on the 3rd (mental note must e-mail invites), which means that our decorations will be going up the last week/weekend of November.

We put up a real tree too (it seems we're in the minority now but I just love the smell of a real tree at Christmas!) so it doesn't go up until around Dec. 10. We buy a permit from the forestry service here, trudge through the snow outside of town with the kids (with lots of hot chocolate and warm clothes, singing Christmas carols all the way, lol) and usually come back with two trees--one for the living room and a smaller kitchen tree for the kids to decorate. We do put up the other Christmas decorations on Dec. 1 though and nothing comes down until Little Christmas (Jan. 6 or so).

I realize this is not the right thread - but it is Christmasy - did anyone change to LED lights last year & do they like them? Or do you still prefer the hangy down ice thingys?

heh - it would probably cost me between $300 and $400 to replace all my lights with LEDs. While I would like to, it's just a big of a cost all at once. I think, starting this year I will start picking them up a few sets a year after boxing day mark downs and maybe in a few years I'll have enough to switch out the lights to the more energy efficient ones.

I was just discussing these lights today....great concept..who doesn't want to save energy and money..but what is up with the ugly colours of these lights? They look more along the lines of Halloween colours to me. Orange..purple...blue...ick..not Christmasey

Ummmmmmmmm... I origionally was not going to write anything here as I thought I was crazy... Nov 1st is usually when I have my tree and decorations up........ (little late this year....)

no, Fossil, you are not the only one!! I have always tried to put mine up later in the month, much to the dismay of my grandson.

When my kids were growing up, we never did the tree until Christmas Eve. Some of my daughters' friends would come over, and we would have hot chocolate and stuff, and sort of have a party. I got the tree decorated, and all i had to do was sit on my butt and tell them where to put everything. (I always wanted it perfect, but it is easier to see the whole effect if your nose isn't in the tree).

I used to have the kids come over and help me with the tree, but last year I did it by myself. Took two days, and just put stuff on till I decided it was done, a little at a time. I have a truckload of ornaments, but they didn't all make it to the tree. I ran out of inspiration before I ran out of ornaments. It still looked fine, and no-one even noticed!! So much for all those years of "perfect".
