I would also think it it to prevent multiple winners. For example, if one person enters multiple email addresses thet they check themselves, its easy for one person to win several. This way they can confirm it is a unique person winning each time.

If you are uncomfortable, ask if you can send a copy of the ID with the master ID number blanked out, only showing the photo and address.

I refuse to give out that much info for such a small prize..

i sent my photo id in with my drivers licence info blacked out and wrote a letter explaining that i was not comfortable having this info available to ppl I didn't know and sent it in..

not sure if I will receive my prize or not but was better than not sending in the forms and not receiving at all which is what I was going to do

If you are entering net contests you are giving out that information all the time and actually more than what it is your drivers license as you also give out your phone number and e-mail address.

Contest sites have been hacked into..muchmusic had theirs hacked a few years ago..and some creepo was phoning people at night..

this may be true in a lot of cases..but I have a cell number that is just for stuff like contests ( I never give out my home number) for most contests I use a post office box, and I make sure that I don't use my exact birth date..I figure if I win I can say "ooops typo"

So for me to be expected to give them a copy of my drivers license..I am giving these ppl a whole lot more information than I am comfortable giving out to strangers

I think companies will also shut the door on those using box numbers. Even now in the rules some say no box numbers.

I don't know how true it is and I m not saying you do it but some use box numbers to get around the entry amount rules.

At the same time I don't know why a birthdate is necessary..it should be enough to confirm you are over 18 cuz as you said you can put down anything..

in order to kill this thread and go on ,,, companies can get your info anyways if you have entered on line, so sending your drivers license which has less info than most people give on line is not that bad a thing, considering all the government sites that have been hacked into..if you dont want to send it dont , and dont worry about your prize, someone who does not worry will get it and use it instead. it's simple.

My nephew won and he got a French e-mail which asks for a copy of a photo i.d. It didn't mention any in particular.

I'm guessing you are right but some of us have no choice but to use a box number ( fairly hard to get a street addy on a farm lol)
it is annoying when they say no PO's. and unfair. if I win and they want to deliver it by say UPS I get them to send it to my friend in the city and most have no problem.
what buggs me is when they say no box numbers and in their rule it say mail for complete rules to PO Box such and such. they can use a box # but we can't

needs to win the lotto

It says so on the Declaration form, Photo ID is required.
I sent a sorta angry email off to the company, explaining that I had no ID with a picture etc. They emailed me back right away, saying my photo (any photo) along with a bill with my address on it would do. So I taped a photo of myself onto my Bell Canada bill, photocopied that and sent it out snail mail. It has 2 weeks to get to Toronto (and btw I look silly in the photo). So we will see what happens...

In terms of ID required..a few bad apples spoil it for others..

Some people simply cheat..and for those that don't this is unfair.
