What is the Canada Learning Bond (CLB)?

This is a Government of Canada grant to help modest-income families save for their child’s post-secondary education. It is put directly into a child’s RESP.
Eligibility
You’re eligible to receive the Canada Learning Bond if:

* Your child was born after December 31st, 2003
* Your monthly Canada Child Tax Benefit payment includes the National Child Benefit Supplement. This supplement is generally for families with a net annual income below $37,178*.

* This amount is updated each year based on the rate of inflation.
The Amount
For families that qualify, the Government will make a one-time payment of $500 into a child’s RESP. Families that receive the Canada Learning Bond will also get extra payments of $100 a year for up to 15 years, as long as they receive the National Child Benefit Supplement. In addition, $25 will be paid with the first $500 bond to help cover the cost of opening an RESP.
Lifetime Limit
The total CLB available for a child amounts to $2,000.
