Lego has got to be one of the all time best toys. I also had a fisherprice farm. It came with people and animals, and you could keep them all inside the 'barn'. And when you opened the barn up it would 'mooo'.
And beyond, that is the funniest story about your mom making your non-barbies clothes! It sounds exactly like something my mom would do, but she wouldn't buy me barbies at all (negative female image thing).
What I LOVED was my oven - Easybake? You know, the plastic yellow oven with the light bulb inside that really works. . . but this is where MY mom cheaped out. She thought the cake mixes that they sold for it where a rip-off, so I only got to use it when she would make a cake (I would get the last bit of batter in the bowl). It just wasn't the same.

And I had this thing with hard plastic designs of skirts, tops with different patterns? put them together to form a woman. Then you would go over it with your pencil and get a 'rubbing'? very fun 
) 
but atleast your pen wouldn't keep coming outta the little holes and screwing up your picture!
