Just a curious observation...

We all know about the scene where Jennifer Connelly is standing at the end of the dock, which is awfully similar to the scene in Dark City. But they say that was just a coincidence.

But I recently watched Perfect Blue (the anime) again, and there is a scene where Mima is seen from overhead in her bathtub in a fetal position. The camera then goes to a tight shot of her face under the water. She screams and air bubbles float up. That exact same scene is in Requiem for a Dream.
Coincidence? I think not.

(Requiem for a Dream 2000, Perfect Blue 1998-99)

Dave.

Good anime DVDs? Well, here's a list of all the anime DVDs I have. I only keep the ones that I think are good. Whatever you do, don't trust the reviewers at www.animeondvd.com because those guys seem to like almost everything that is anime.
I'm really looking forward to getting the Akira SE LE DVD, but I'm having a hard time getting enough Amazon GCs to get anything these days.

Cowboy Bebop Volume 1
Ghost In The Shell
Grave of the Fireflies
Ninja Scroll
Perfect Blue
Princess Mononoke
Wicked City (is OK, but not great)

Dave.

I'm kinda picky - I've noticed that the fanatics just love almost everything. They don't take into consideration people who don't love the genre just because it's anime. All I'm looking for a is good story.

I can second all of the above. And I too seem to be of the same mindset as the two of you. I'm not a particularly big fan of anime per se, but it has its moments and the above are good picks. I also liked "Castle of Cagliostro" and "Wings of Honneamise" (also called "Royal Space Force") but both of those have had very mixed reactions by my friends, who also share the same mindset as us when it comes to anime.
