I signed up with the DVD clubs a couple of months ago and wanted to ask what is the best discount you can get from their monthly catalog.

So far I've got 33% and 25% off offers. Do they offer any higher discounts, I just want to know when the right time would be to place my next order.

33% is the best I've seen in the past 10 months or so...every once in a while they have a box set on sale. Their CD club had some great sales on box sets.

1) Do they have every (or almost every) major studio release?
2) Is there is delay time between a DVD store release and CH?
3) Has CH started pressing their own discs or a they still the studios?
4) Are the prices really expensice compared to B&M or e-tailers ( i.e. $23.99 for Cahhdyshack II or another cheapie WB disc)
5) Is there a catalog or url w/ complete title listings?

I've seen 25%, 33% and 10$ off. I can't remember seeing any others. Be warned you will probably (in Canada at least) have to fight to get sale selections counted toward your membership agreement. Read the fine print in the magazine carefully.

A notice to all potential CH members....I was told recently that only DVDs with a regular price of $22.95 or greater count towards your membership agreement. This was confirmed via my purchase history....

NOTE: Like most, I needed 3 DVD's to fulfil my agreement.

Purchase A:
Boxset for ~$34 (regular price price minus 25% = regular selection)
$32.95 DVD minus $10 for sale ($22.95)
DVD under $22.95 minus $10 for sale (~$16-17)

Purchase B:
$32.95 DVD (regular selection)
$32.95 DVD minus 33% off (~$22)

Based on purchase A&B, I thought that I had fulfilled my membership agreement....NOPE, I was informed by CH that the above purchases only count as two selections, need 1 more.

Purchase C:
$32.95 DVD (regular selection)
$31.95 DVD minus 33% off (~$21)
$32.95 DVD minus 33% off (~$22)

Hope that it's it. FWIW, I should have been very selective by picking only $22.95 DVDs at regular prices. But, I am pretty happy with most of my selections.

Anyone else in the same boat?

1) They have "Most" new releases. Nothing from 20th Century Fox, Criterion or Disney Animation and I think less and less MGM and Paramount titles as time goes on.
2) Yes, at least a couple of months...This months directors selection is Traffic (released on DVD May 29, 2001)
3) No, they still buy from the studios
4) The prices seem really expensive until you add up the total cost. If you get the 3 for $1 Plus 1 for $14.95 and then take 3 priced at $27.95 (which there are hundreds to choose from) then your final cost per DVD is about $18. If you sign up a friend you get another DVD for $4.95 which brings the average price down to $17 each. (These are based on the taxes I have to pay in BC, other provinces may be even cheaper!!) If you choose the titles which are less than $27.95 as you fulfilment titles this will bring the cost down even more but the selection is not very good.
5) There is no listing for Canada yet but there is a good one at DvdTalk.com for the USA club most of which are available in Canada.

If you go to this link remember that not all discs are available and the prices are US$. I am trying to get a list together of the higher $ movies that are available as sign-up selections (Lawrence of Arabia, T2: Ultimate, Seven: Platinum, Fight Club, etc.)

I've been having a hell of a time with Columbia House recently. When I completed my last club enrolement package I was allowed to but DVD's at a sale price and have them count as long as it was over the $22.95 minimum. Now this time I just purchased 2 more and they're telling me that the second one doesn't count towards my enrolement agreement!

I wish their Customer Service people would get all this straightened out, their Phone people tell me one thing then their E-mail people tell me another!!!!
