One of my friend from the US is in Toronto this week and he was wondering where he could get a nice price for a laptop in Toronto and the area. I'm from Montreal so I can't help him out.

First off, most of us in Canada can only drool at the deals that are available in the US, so unless he needs a notebook ASAP, your friend is better off shopping at home, even after accounting for the weak CA$.

Since two of the best brands, IBM and Dell, sell primarily through the Internet, and the others, like Toshiba, Sony, HP, etc. are available at major chains like Future Shop, Staples and Office Depot, the selection in Montreal ought to be about the same as Toronto.

Just bought a notebook off ebay for a great price. Around $2100 for a Toshiba 2.4GHz, 512DDR RAM, 15" XGA Screen etc... Snoop around you most likely will find good deals. Futureshop has the Compaq 1516US on rebate which translates to roughly the same as the US Price before taxes. Taxes is really the main deal breaker
