McAffee? Norton? Other? What do you recommend? (And where can I buy it cheap? Or should I just pay the $4 lousy bucks a month via my internet provider for it? Sorry I can't figure out how to make it a poll(nothing seems to happen when I click the box)

Trend micro's pc-cillin:

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/personal.htm

Includes firewall, REALLY useful wireless security stuff, and a bunch of other good features. I was an AVG user until a sysadmin pal of mine told me about it, tried it out on my sister's pc and it found some things that AVG had missed.. Switched!

Remember free = you get what you pay for.. Not saying that AVG is bad, just not the greatest.

This is what I have on mine, glad it's a good one. I got blamed because our computer crashed alittle while back (we used Bullguard!?!) and I was blamed because of all the freebie/contest sites I go on (from here!). So a friend put Trend Micro on for us (me mostly)

There is a known bug in AVG that it can't scan compressed files so perhaps those are the ones that TM got.

I switch around with various free online scans once and awhile to be on the safe side and would with any anti-virus I had installed.

When a person switches anitvirus programs should he or she uninstall the current one before downloading the new program? I uninstalled Norton to install AntiVir used that for awhile then unistalled AntiVir to use Avast? Was this the right thing to do? Also even though I took AntiVir off whenever I start the computer the AntiVir logo shows up and it is also in the task bar but the computer does say no program installed. What is up with that?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with this program. You might want to visit their website to see if there's any specific information about uninstalling.

BTW, what operating system are you using? Also, how did you uninstall these programs, using Windows Add/Remove Programs or the product's uninstaller program?
