See the linked article, VIA Rail won't make these changes because of the expense, while private businesses are being forced to make their facilities accessible regardless of cost.

Via won't expand train doors despite complaints from disabled

Famous Players is being forced to close the beautiful, art-deco Eglinton movie theatre in Toronto, because of complaints by the disabled - even though all their new theatres are at the cutting edge of accessibility (including audio captioning for the visually impaired). Sometimes, accessibility is pushed to the point of foolishness...

I am new here, but thought this was interesting, as I am a childcare/lifeskills worker to children with disabilities.
For a long time now, Famous Players offered a companion pass to people with disabilities who arrive with someone (you have to ask). Stupidly, they changed that policy, and the person had to have some type of "assistive device" in order to qualify. I had many an arguement with these folks, as my clients could use their disabled parking spots (with a pass), but could not qualify Give me a break! I even threatened to put one of my kids with arthritis back into a stroller if necessary (much to the child's dismay), but nothing. Now, it seems they have relented, and the past few times, I have had no problem obtaining the pass. Guess they learned from their stupidity (or someone threatened a law suit!).

to the bowl, HadEnough!

Its unfortunate that you encountered the difficulties you did. Good to hear they have smartened up. I wouldn't be too hard on them. The original change in policy was probably the result of abuse of the service. Sadly, many efforts of businesses to provide better service to their customers are abused by those who take advantage of them unfairly, ultimately making the honest ones suffer.
