I have to get this off my chest. It may seem trivial but it is an issue with me. I was in WalMart the other day when I had the need to use the washroom there. While in there, washing my hands WITH SOAP. I see other people, even the workers, either not washing their hands or just putting them under the water.
Putting them under the water doesn't do a darn thing. It doesn't kill germs and bacteria. Either people are too darn lazy or are just plain ignorant to what can be spread around by not washing hands properly. I don't know but it really burns me up.
For example, there is a bacteria called VRE that can be dangerous to the elderly and children and I becomming more common everyday. It is also resistant to most antibiotics. I know of an elderly man in my neighbourhood who has contracted this and neglected to wash his hands after toiletting and ended up losing an eye over it. Ok, I have ranted enough, sorry about that, I'm on horomones right now and everything is getting on my nerves.

Just be careful how you wash, so you don't pick up more germs...

Bathroom research reveals surprising data

She said the best advice for anyone who uses public restrooms is to avoid busy bathrooms that appear dirty or have standing water.

Kennedy and Gerba found bathrooms with one stall, or more than three, contained the most bacteria, possibly because they had the most traffic.

Kennedy also gave advise for bathroom procedures.

"Wash your hands and try not to touch the inside of the sink basin," she said.

She also advised people to use a paper towel when turning off faucets and opening the bathroom door.

I've been doing that paper towel thing for years now. You have to think: when people are done wiping their bum, the first thing they touch is the faucet handle. And after you're done disinfecting your hands with soap, you turn off the water by touching that very same faucet handle. And the door... ugh... that's for people that don't wash at all...

Good advice on this page...scroll down to the "HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF" section. I'll never use a hot air dryer again!

And while we're all thinking disgusting thoughts, consider the people who clean the toilets after hours.

They all now wear rubber gloves to protect themselves from our sh*t and our germs while they scrub out the toilets and sinks, etc. Then they spread it all around as they handle toilet seats, stall latches, faucets, door knobs, etc. while wearing the same gloves

At least your office bathrooms get a good cleaning! Where I work, a couple of years ago they were being very negligent on the cleaning. The floor was rarely cleaned, and the toilet was almost as bad. Unfortunately, the low level of bathroom hygiene of the employees here at the time didn't help either. It was truly disgusting!

It's still pretty gross -- recently we had a little "plant" (with leaf and all) growing out of the coffee mug in which they keep the toilet brush!

PS - The bathroom is like a powder room in one's home rather than a typical public bathroom with stalls....there's a toilet, sink, door, etc.

And what're you going to do when you have to relieve yourself while at work -- use a bottle?!

I saw a show a while ago about a new kind of outdoor public bathroom that was installed in NYC (or it may have been London). After each use, it was fully sanitized!

Foot Flush! Even after washing my hands, I use kleenex or toilet paper to open doors. Luckly, most of the washrooms in the malls these days have no entrance door and all the sinks and toilets are automatic. Still, after all that, I always carry an antibacterial lotion like Purell in my pocket.

I remember a few years ago on Dateline, they did a show on germs. They found fecal matter on theater seats and the stuff they found on money, especially bills, was even worse.

They have them in Paris at least. About the size of a 2 or 3 phone booths and coin operated. You have something like 5 to 10 minutes to do your business and get out. After that a hot water detergent spray cycle comes on. If you don't get out in time your whole body gets a sanitized scrubbing!

So, what do all you people suggest to others,
like my son and myself, who are allergic to soap?
I rinse under water, then use Purell.

brrrrr!
