There was nothing that great on TV and I was waiting to watch my show... so I admit to watching Joe Millionaire. Alex the host from Trading Spaces was a part of it. Anybody else check it out? I think it's a cruel, yet I'm somewhat drawn to it. There's always a few girls that are really catty and bitchy and it's amusing.

I'm making a point of dropping heavy objects on my toe, rather than watch this one.

Don't get me wrong, watch it if you like, I just have a problem with people being dishonest about themselves. That doesn't say the gold-diggers shouldn't get theirs, I'm just saying....

It's pretty sad how most of US television nowadays is based on insulting or laughing at other people. You know it's gone too far when game shows tell you your the weakest link.

Most of the "reality" shows encourage a "dog eat dog" mentality which is going to create a generation of really nasty people. As if it isn't bad enough already, they're giving prizes to whoever is the most scheming and coniving.

The best "reality" show I've ever seen was on PBS, called "rough science" where they drop some scientists on an island and get them to do stuff like make a radio, figure out the longitude/latitude of the island, make bug repellent etc.. Its all in the spirit of cooperation and has some really nifty science on it too.. Worth a watch!

Joe millionaire was a bit of a riot too though, much like the bachelorettes in alaska.. Lets face it, these people volunteered to be on tv and therefore deserve whatever they get

It's wrong. It's so wrong.

Still though, if you look deep enough there's some good drama in there. We get to see how living a big-@$$ lie affects Evan's conscience and him as a person and of course knowing what we know about the entire point of the show, what motivates the girls to act the way they do (although the viewpoints may be slightly skewed by Fox and their editing many days events into a 1-hour format, but still...).

Then again, I may just be reading too much into it. And yet, I'm pretty sure I'll be watching next week...

Actually, I have heard people in the workplace -- people in their 40s -- justifying immoral actions completely unrelated to game shows because "that's how you win Survivor".

There is a natural law that binds everyone to a core of decent behaviour, regardless of your culture or religion. That's why virtually anyone who breaks it will come up with an excuse as to why they "had to" break it. They need to put themselves in some kind of special class that somehow prevented them from behaving in a decent manner. I believe this is why people want to put on the appearance of being so busy and that their lives are so hectic -- if you are too busy or if you're always late, that somehow excuses you from caring or behaving properly; it is the "excuse".

These game shows are another example of these excuses. The funny thing is, they aren't even close to being plausible or reasonable excuses (as some are, though many of them are self-inflicted or imagined for convenience) because we're not playing on a game show.

Well, I will admit I liked watching temptation island (starting up soon) and the bachelor.

But I don't think Joe Millionaire deception show is ethical if indeed it is a lie that he's a millionaire. I'm beginning to wonder if the deception is not with the girls on the show but with the TV viewers. Maybe at the end, we'll all find out he's worth 1 million dollars (and not 50 MM) and the audience was tested on our perception of a poor joe looking for love.

I haven't watched the show, I only know of its concept, but I think these girls deserve everything they get. Cruel? Perhaps, but so what? I have even less respect for gold diggers than I do for liars.

Well I admit I did watch and I kinda liked it. I love survivor and sometimes big brother but not much else in the way of "reality tv".

Most of these ladies are shallow and I just cannot wait for some of them to get what they deserve. Last night after only a day or two of actually being in the "chateau" and meeting Joe for a couple of hours were looking devastated for not being chosen.

They were not crying that he didn't like him personally, just crying for the money that they had already spent in their minds.

I really didn't like Alex much in this compared to the Trading spaces. too stiff. Joe is rather a cutie. I believe what they are going to do is make us believe he is not a millionaire and the women believe that he is. Then he will tell the woman he chooses that he is not a millionaire and see what she does. Then if she reacts cool he will tell her the truth that yes indeed he is.

Maybe, but I still think that Evan is just a regular Joe (although who knows how much Fox gave him for his participation in the program):

And it's interesting that the contestants who progress get jewlery in increasing value but the 'winner' gets nothing but the guy and the bitter truth. If anything, I really want to tune into the last episode (and the supposed reunion show that Fox is trying to assemble) just to see the outcome of this experiment. Of course, Fox has said that this is a one time deal only with no sequel planned (and who can blame them as you probably couldn't trick people into this a second time) so if you're into this kind of thing, then you'd better get your fill now.

I think criticism should also go to Fox for giving these people and the producers that present them to the world the time of day. Fox is heavily responsible for bringing this kind of crap to the mainstream, and I'm not just talking about Joe Millionaire

Personally I much prefer the shows like fear factor.. Chicks eating horse rectum, thats good viewing!!
