Hi fishies...I don't mean to waste room, but wanted to post this so everyone looks at it.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT E-MAIL FRAUD

Numerous financial institutions have recently reported instances of customers receiving fraudulent e-mails that claim to link to online banking contests. These e-mails invite customers to click on a link and enter their personal banking information.

These fraudulent e-mails are sent as spam to numerous e-mail addresses and informs recipients of a "security system" update and asks them to click on a link and log into their account in order to "reactivate" it with the new "security system". If you receive this fraudulent e-mail delete it immediately.


This notice was from my bank, but I also rec'd a fraud email from my "eBay account" (it looked SO real!) telling me to log in and update my info, that was totally fake!! It was just a ploy to get my username and password.

I have gotten so used to clicking and entering personal info for contests that when I got the eBay email, I almost did the same without even thinking! So I just thought I'd pass this on.

If anyone knows of other similar "contest" scams, I'd sure like to know about them!

I thought about it, and then got wondering, why all of a sudden was I getting updates to my software? I didn't open it, I just deleted it right away. Franny, that is another demon being sent. I get emails every day claiming to be from support@microsoft.com when in fact they are fakes or "spoofs". The so called "patch" they urge you to download is in fact the virus itself!! I'm so glad you didn't open it. I will admit, the first time I got it, I almost did! The emails look so authentic! Scary stuff...

There's several of the like around right now. So far, I've recieved these:

There's one from Rogers (I'm using roger's high speed) That is asking me to update something & Download something. I've never opened it, but it has been reported don't you doubt that! *nods*

There's one from MSN, once again, asking you to download an important security update. Don't even bother, Delete it as soon as you get it!

Theres one from Yahoo, asking you to "Re-verify" your account with Yahoo. And I've gone to check this site out *Shakes head* It's so incredible how REALISTIC it looks! THEY EVEN HAD AN FAQ FOR IT!! But it asked for your bank account number & your Credit card number.

It's unbelievable how many have all of a sudden popped up in the main stream all at once. But yeah, A heads up is always nice. I hadn't actually heard of one from eBay before, but I'm assuming it must be the same people who did the yahoo one if it's that convincing. *shrugs* Ah well... Caveate Emptor...

Here is another very scary fraud that is making the rounds - an email from Gift-stakes.com reads -

Looks pretty authentic doesn't it!
However, when you go to the site, it asks for your Debit Card Pin Number.
More than a few folks have had their bank accounts cleaned out through this one!
I understand that this same email sometimes comes from zurprise.net.

I have received the email saying it is from Microsoft 3 days in a row now. The subject line says "Download this patch immediately" . I always delete anything I receive unless I know what it is about . Got a real bad trojan virus once from someone posting a link . Some people can just be too nasty!

I've received numerous e-bay fraud e-mails as well. I have forwarded them all to spoof@ebay.com and they have all been verified as scams. It is unbelievable how bold these people are! One of the links send you to a site (one without the little security padlock on the browser - the one that shows you have a secure connection) that you don't log into at all - and it asks for all of your info - credit card # & expiry, SIN, etc. Unbelievable!

Everything you need to know about spoof emails and how to spot 'em!!

Over the last couple of days, I've been getting email scams, asking me to submit personal information such as phone/fax numbers, bank account info etc. In return I would receive a % of millions of dollars because of some poor soul that died suddenly, got tossed in jail or whatever.
Needless to say, I'm not a fool and don't fall for these things, but I get so sick of getting them. Soooooo .. I decided to search around and try to find a way to report these illegal activities.
Anyone who gets this stuff .. even spam, email viruses or whatever it may be, can report it to the RCMP. Here is the link:
