Hey, you want a really, cool baking secret? This one was passed down from my grandmother who lived to be 99 years old...therefore, lots of wisdom behind the technique.

Have you ever baked a cake that required the cake to be sliced into two layers? Many people get the toothpicks out for alignment and then grab the longest knife in their kitchen to start hacking at it. WRONG, wrong tedious approach!

All you need is thread. Yep, just regular sewing thread!

Snip a piece of thread that is long enough to circle the the cake layer and place it where you think the center is. Once the thread has circled the cake once, cross both ends of the thread over each other and pull until the thread starts going through the cake layer and exits the other side. Pull in the same manner as you would to tighten a knot.

This is so easy to do and works like a charm every time! And, your cake layer is split into two perfect halfs.

Hopefully I explained myself clearly enough for you all!

Happy baking!

Martha Stewart

Here's a real special treat to serve Christmas Eve if you have a small family....smalll family cause it could cost a bit

LOBSTER THERMADORE

This is very yummy!!!!!

4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour

Mix these two in a pot on medium heat until creamy

Add 1 1/4 cups of Blend (like coffee blend)

1 egg - When adding egg, remove small amout of mixture from
pot and add to egg before returning to pot. This is done
to prevent egg from cooking.

3/4 cup old cheddar cheese
1 can baby shrimp
1 can sliced mushrooms
1 can crab
1 can frozen lobster (that was thawed)

Mix all these ingredients on low to medium heat until all smooth and creamy. Once hot, turn down mixture and let simmer until ready to eat.

This can be refrigerated and reheated the following day.

For serving lobster thermadore, pour into warm pastry shells that have already been prebaked. Use the same large pastry shells that you would use for Turkey a la King.

If you love lobster, you will absolutely LOVE this! It is very rich but oh such a tasty, special treat!

This is one of the best things I walked away from an earlier 8 yr relationship with.

Just ask Ingy how yummy this is!!!

No, not actual coffee hehehe

Listen the only coffee I drink is Tims which is already pre-made for me so I'm not much help here but I think what I bought last time is what angelface mentioned....1/2 & 1/2 cream. The important thing is that you need something heavier than just regular milk.

If there is something at the grocery store that just says "Blend" buy it, but if not, go with 1/2 & 1/2.

Hope this clears things up.

If you like garlic, this is "the best" steak marinade out there.....

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar or dry red wine
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tbsp dry mustard
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp soya sauce
2 tsp hot sauce
2-5 garlic cloves

Combine all ingredients in shallow container so that meat is immersed in marinade. Refrigerate at least 8 hours turning just once.

I like to prepare the marinade the night before I plan to bar-b-q. Even though there is alot of garlic in this mixture, it is really, very sweet. A great combination!
