What about a board game that the whole family can get together and enjoy?Or gift certificates, maybe to McDonalds, you wouldn't have to spend too much for 5 kids there(maybe $25?).Or if you bake why not just make a bunch of cookies or brownies. It's something they could all share and would certainly be the cheapest for you.

A milkshake machine............you know, the old fashioned kind. I have seen them in the past. I have no idea how much they are, but all ages would enjoy that. Buy some syrups to go with or some inexpensive patio glasses (that are sale right now, left over from summer) and you are done!

The milkshake machine is available at Canadian Tire for $29.99 product #43-1995-4. Check it out at their on line site.

If they have a gaming system like playstation or gamecube, they have inexpensive games at superstore and walmart for under $20.00. You could always ask for a gift receipt so that they can return it if they already have it.

[Or gift certificates, maybe to McDonalds, you wouldn't have to spend too much for 5 kids there(maybe $25?).

My son actually got $50 in gift certificates for McDonald's for his birthday....sorry but I thought it was a lousy gift...no imagination what so ever.

I can tell you what my brother in BC does for our 3 kids (11,15 & 17). He gives them a crisp $100 bill and tells them they have to decide together what to buy with it. He sets the ground rules, they all have to agree and it must be something that can be used by all 3. Our kids have used the money to buy pool toys one year, towards a gaming system another, a cheap home theater another year for their tv, etc. It saves him the shipping and it teaches the kids that they need to work together and come to a jointly made decision....

I wholeheartedly agree with the Board Game idea. Look here for tons and tons of great ideas: www.boardgamegeek.com.

My first thought is Gulo Gulo, which can be played by all of them, including the 3 year old.

If you are not having fun, you are missing the point.

Here's another neat idea,do a movie night basket. Include popcorn, soda, cookies, licorice, skittles and other treats along with movie rental gift certificates.
It's a great way to include the whole family. You could even use a big tray to serve everything instead of a basket.

Sticking with the board game idea:

Cranium The Family Fun Game is an amazing game, fun for ALL ages...including adults!!

"Cranium Family Fun features a variety of hilarious activities that will have everyone laughing, high-fiving, and working and playing together! With colorful Cranium Cubes and fun Flipper Frogs, The Family Fun Game delivers the ultimate game night!

Can Mom flip a frog through a hoop you've sculpted out of clay? Can you pass the Cranium Cubes to Dad ... without using your hands? Can you work together to write down three of the top five most popular pizza toppings?

In Cranium Family Fun, everybody will have a chance to shine as you perform wacky stunts, act, sketch, guess, sculpt with Cranium Clay, and more! And the short play time (about 40 minutes) makes it easy to squeeze in some laugh-out-loud family fun before dinner or after school."

The movie night basket is a great idea ..I did one for hubbys birthday but didnt put rental coupons..I bought the DVD's .If you look in all the sales bins you can find great movies to buy that are actually cheaper than to rent!I got some great titles for $5
Try Blockbuster..they usually have a sales bin
