I want to buy a new printer and was wondering what would be the right choice. Color ink jet printer not too expensive to print standard document from the web. Nothing fancy.

I won't be using it to print 'photo'.

Thanks in advance!

Try Walmart or Future Shop

In the long run, it's not the price of the printer that adds up to the most, it's the ink.
I would check out the models that are a reasonable priced ( on sale) somewhere like Staples and choose the one with the cheapest ink cartridge.

If you don't need colour then I'd recommend laser over inkjet, not only because the print quality is better but the cost of toner on a cents/page basis is lower. You can find Brother and Samsung et al lasers for as little as $70 on sale at Staples, FS, NCIX et al.

E.g. currently on sale with shipping included: http://www.ncix.com/products/index....mp;promoid=1030

I just bought an HP 3 in one because I have had so much trouble with Lexmark and, as Dewcat said, the ink is very expensive.

The HP cost me $59.99 from their online shopping http://shopping.hp.ca/home.asp?BEId=5&LANG=EN
and shipping was free. I am very impressed with the copier - it is compact, much faster than the Lexmark and much cheaper for ink.

Check out all their models - I will certainly buy from them in future

This is probably the best piece of advice that anyone can give you - I bought one of the cheaper printers but the ink refills cost as much as the printer cost (with tax about $50 a piece). My mom on the other had bought a more expensive printer and her refills are less than $20 a piece.

If you do much printing at all it doesn't take long to go through the refills - so when you do the math it makes more sense to pay a bit more up front!!

I'm ready to listen - are you ready to think?

I would second the comment on getting a laser printer.

If one looks t the total cost of a printer over 3-5 years (or more) you will find that the laser printers are way less expensive.

Since I have a biased view of things, here are my pros for lasers;

- BW print costs are $0.02-0.08 / page
- colour lasers are $0,11-0.15 / page
- you will never toss a partial toner because you haven't printed in a few weeks and the toner has dried (ie ink jet heads do dry out and even though there is ink left, it cannot print)
- 1 cartridge good for years (my inlaws have an HP 1012, cartridge was ~$90, good for 3+ years, 4,000 pages)
- even the small lasers now do about 20 ppm
- some will even do automatic 2 sided printing

Zen.
